Chain Thinking - A Shep Harrington SmallTown ® Mystery
My name is Elliott Light, and as the author of a new series of mystery novels called SmallTown® Mysteries, I am pleased to announce the publication of Chain Thinking.

Chain Thinking Chain Thinking , the second in of the SmallTown Mystery series, picks up where LONESOME SONG left off. But the uninitiated need not be put off. Chain Thinking warmly welcomes newcomers as well as returning fans of Shep Harrington to this lawyer-cum-detective's latest case-a case called Kikora.

Kikora is stolen property left in Shep's care, a chimpanzee who has been liberated from her confining cage in a testing lab at DMI-a mega-medical conglomerate led by the villainous Howard Doring, who "apparently believes that the human animal has every right to exploit all living things." But when a DMI doctor is murdered, and the authorities step up their hunt for Kikora, Shep soon has more than just an ape on his hands.

This SmallTown Mystery reprises the roles of Shep Harrington, his friends, and the Poor Farm, a setting which is a character unto itself. The most intriguing member of the cast, however, is newcomer Kikora. This lovable and star-crossed primate is human enough to prove the only real difference between us and them is 1.6% of DNA. Chain Thinking is a whodunit with a heart and a mind. Once the mystery is solved, there's a whole lot more left to think about, and the author adroitly poses ethical questions to the reader without waxing didactic. >>Read More

The reaction to Chain Thinking has been extraordinary:
BEST-SELLING MYSTERY AUTHORS MARTHA GRIMES: “Seamlessly weaves together fiction-the story of Kikora, a chimpanzee, and a social issue-animal rights.”

NEVADA BARR: “Within this mystery, Elliott Light's reluctant detective makes his own case for the need to break ‘Chain Thinking’ and morally look at an important topic for discussion—the way we treat our fellow creatures.”

ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS LORI KETTLER, PETA: “Chain Thinking’s success could mean many people not necessarily in tune with the issue of animal use in laboratory testing will develop a more thoughtful attitude about the whole sordid mess.”

STEVEN M. WISE, HARVARD LAW SCHOOL: “In Chain Thinking, the plain truths about our inhumanity to other beings with whom we share our world are told in a way both exciting and funny.”
